What is Japanese Hair Straightening?

Q: How long does the Japanese hair straightening process take?
A: 4-5 hours, depending on the thickness and length of hair.

Q: How long does Japanese hair straightening last?
A: Hair that is treated with Japanese hair treatment will remain straight almost permanently. However, new hair will grow according to its natural texture. We recommend that you get it re-done every 6-12 months, but the interval will vary depending on your natural hair texture and how quickly your hair grows.

Q: How soon after having Japanese hair straightening, can the hair be shampooed or get wet?
A: You can shampoo or wet your hair 2 days after this treatment is done. It is recommended to blow dry after shampooing but is not always necessary. Blow dry your hair 100% after shampooing every time to maintain the best polished look, and air dry for a more natural effect. You can air dry to at least 75% and then blow dry your hair the rest of the way for more efficiency in your blow drying time.

Q: How does Japanese hair straightening work?
A: The solutions used for Japanese Hair Straightening permanently straightens the hair. The solutions work by physically changing the internal structure of the hair. By applying heat with a flat iron, it creates a permanent straight shape.

Q: Will Japanese hair straightening damage my hair?
A: The Japanese process is not just about straightening hair, it also re-texturizes your hair to a healthy shine. Correct application by a trained and experienced stylist will give you the results you desire. Make sure you consult a stylist experienced in Japanese hair straightening if you have any concerns.

Q: Does Japanese hair straightening work on any type of hair?
A: Yes, Japanese hair straightening works on all hair types. The best candidate for Japanese hair straightening is healthy virgin hair or hair that has been colored by a stylist with single process color. (not home color)

Q: Can I have Japanese hair straightening and color at the same time?
A: No. Color your hair at least 2 weeks before or after the straightening procedure. Applying both chemical treatments simultaneously will result in hair damage, so do them separately to avoid undesirable results.

Q: I have done a different brand of Japanese hair straightening before. Can I still have Japanese hair straightening done?
A: If the previous hair straightening procedure uses the same chemical (Ammonium Thioglycolate) as Japanese straightening solutions, applying Japanese will not be a problem. Please contact both companies to make sure chemicals are the same. Even if both use the same chemicals, the Japanese hair straightening process may not fully work if the hair is badly damaged already.

Q: I have done a relaxer/Brazilian/Keratin treatment before. Can I still have Japanese hair straightening done?
A: No. We do not recommend getting Japanese hair straightening except on new growth. Please wait 3-4 months until the relaxer/Brazilian/Keratin Treatment coating is completely off your hair to get Japanese hair straightening.

Q: Do I need to use special hair-care products after the Japanese treatment?
A: Japanese hair straightening offers home care products that will work optimally on hair that has been treated with Japanese hair straightening.

Q: How is Japanese hair straightening different from other Japanese hair straightening method?
A: In addition to being a state-of-the-art hair straightening system, Japanese hair straightening is also a recognized technique of restoring health to the hair. The Japanese Hair Straightening procedure holds a patent in the US, as well as in Japan, New Zealand, Turkey and other countries.

Q: How is Japanese hair straightening different from Brazilian/Keratin treatment method?
A: Japanese hair straightening permanently straightens hair by physically changing the internal structure of hair. Brazilian/Keratin treatment temporarily coats hair with keratin to smooth hair. Brazilian/Keratin treatments will wash out in average 3 months, so you must visit a salon often to re-coat the hair with this method.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

When you arrive at the salon, the process is as follows:

1. Stylist will shampoo your hair with the Brazilian Blowout specially formulated Anti-Residue; Professional Shampoo to prepare your hair for the optimal smoothing result.

2. After towel drying, your certified Brazilian Blowout stylist will divide your hair into sections and begin to comb the Brazilian Blowout Professional Treatment through each section of the hair from root to tip; lightly dusting each section with the solution.

3. Solution will surround each hair shaft with protective protein layers to smooth and flatten the cuticle.

4. Stylist will then blow-dry your hair as straight as possible with a flat or round brush.

5. Once the hair is dry, the Stylist will divide the hair into four sections and begin using a flat iron to further straighten the hair in 2-3 inch sections.

6. Once complete, the Stylist will rinse the hair (no shampoo), towel-dry and apply the Brazilian Blowout Masque to further seal in the professional formulation. After 60 seconds, the stylist will rinse the hair once again and towel dry.

7. The Stylist will then apply the Brazilian Blowout Smoothing Serum to further seal the cuticle and assist in detangling the hair prior to the final blow dry.

8. The Stylist will then blow dry the hair straight one final time and style as desired.

PRAVANA Perfection Smooth Out Solution

Results will last 8-12 weeks with the hair gradually returning to its natural “textural memory” state. Use of sulfate free, salt-free and paraben-free shampoo and conditioner maximize the longevity of the service.

Pravana Smooth Out does NOT make your hair perfectly straight. It reduces frizz and allows you to dry and style your hair more quickly than before. You can have volume, texture or a sleek look without the frizz.

Pravana is naturally safe and Formaldehyde Free. Perfection employs Pravana’s nano amino acid complex, which is comprised of amino acids, a heat protective polymer and a reducing catalyst that is activated with heat to allow the solution to penetrate the hair fiber and to suspend the hairs “textual memory”. There is no need for formaldehyde or a formaldehyde substitute to bind keratin to the hair, as there is no keratin in the Perfection Smoothout formula.

The Perfection Smoothout contains amino acids that are heated during the service which produce a mild odor. Hair may temporarily retain this aroma. Any residual odor can be eliminated within 2-3 shampoos after the service.

Perfection can be used on ALL hair types and conditions, including African-American hair. Perfection will reduce curl significantly with the initial service. However, in most cases, a second application will eliminate the remaining curl.

CASHMERE LUMINANCE

The basic Cashmere Luminance Procedure takes 1 and ½ to 2 hours. You will start with a hair consultation. We will shampoo your hair, apply the treatment and smoothing solution, processing with or without heat for 5-39 minutes. Rinses and blow dry and iron. Cashmere Luminance uses sodium sulfite, a very gentle reducing agent, also used for preserving wines, meats and dried fruits. Lanolin, wool wax, to lock moisture inside hair. Cellulose Gym, extracted from pulp, coating agent, to create even surfaces and Silk PPT, extracted from silk protein to bring smoothness and shine. The benefits of Cashmere Luminance are easy, manageable, smoother, lightweight, and temporary. Hair coloring can be done on the same day after this service.

Q: I wanted my hair color to be lighter than what I have been coloring it. I used a lighter color and the root area turned lighter and brighter and the middle and ends are still dark. It looks like a big color mistake, now what do I do?
A: Option #1: Color the root area with a demi color to go back to a darker shade to match your ends. A list will follow of some minor things.

Option#2: If your hair is strong enough a color remover can be applied to remove the dark color on the middle and ends of your hair. After it has lightened to the proper level, remove it and reapply a lighter color to match the new color at the scalp. Caution must be taken to save the integrity of the hair and this should only be done if the hair is strong enough to begin with.

Option #3: You can call a professional colorist to be sure to get the results you want. Make an appointment for a consultation. At that time you should explain to them what your desired color is. They should evaluate the condition of your hair, explain to you the procedure, what you can expect and give you cost evaluation. By calling upon a professional colorist, your hair will be healthier and shinier because of the quality of the color used and the professional grade of conditioners used through out the process. You only have one head of hair, be good to it.

Q: I am starting to go grey, do I have to do full, permanent color and can I still have it natural looking?
A: No, you do not have to do permanent color. Yes, it can still look natural. Let me give you some options to decide which suits you best. 

Option#1 is to weave in different tones in your color family, the results will be shiny and rich while leaving a little grey exposed. Your maintenance should be 3 months.

Option #2 would be to have a demi color applied.  This will blend the grey while leaving multiple tones showing through. You can choose a color close to your natural or add some different tones to compliment your existing color to spice it up. Your results will be very shiny and maintenance should be 8-10 weeks.
Take the guessing out of it and call a pro.

Q: My hair is over processed from bleaching, I want to be a richer blonde but the color keeps washing out. Why, and what do I do?
A: The color washes out because it has nothing to hang on to and nothing to lock it in. Ammonia is a harsh ingredient used to open the outside layer of the hair (cuticle) so the color can penetrate. After this is done repeatedly, the cuticle stays wide open, resulting in the disappearance of the color and dry dull hair. You should be using an ammonia free organic hair color, after a professional grade strengthening treatment. Your results will be super shiny, and long lasting color. You only have one head of hair, be kind to it.

Q: I have been having my hair professionally highlighted for a while and it seems to be getting all one color. Why and what can I do?
A: That has happened because the lightener has been applied beyond what has grown out, not allowing some of your natural color to remain. You are lucky the only result was too much blonde, many times the hair becomes dry and dull and in extreme cases breaks off. To balance your color out again, you can have a couple natural, rich tones woven back in and a glossing applied all over. Be cautious to only have what has grown out lightened in the future. Good Luck, and I would not recommend doing this yourself.

Q: I am a blonde, what can I do for fall and winter to freshen up without losing my blonde hair color?
A: Blondes still look great for fall and winter. The tone needs to be richened with the addition of honey, golden and even some caramel tones for underneath, keeping the lighter ones around your face. After the new tones are introduced a color gloss is applied all over for the super shiny, healthy hair look. Say goodbye to the dry bleached out blonde of summer and hello to the richened shiny blonde of fall.

Q: I used a color on my hair at home and it is too dark. I just want my natural color back. Can I get that?
A: If you seek out a professional that specializes in color correction, she can remove the dark color and recolor your hair similar to your natural tone. Once you have colored your hair with permanent hair color, you have changed the natural tone and will not see it until it grows out but a professional colorist can match the tone quite close. Organic hair color is a great color to use because it is very shiny and sheer which most resembles natural looking hair.
